Subcorrente / Undercurrent, 2019

Film installation at Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art

HD video, 15', Color, Sound

A marine biologist is leading a project for the mapping of one of the deepest areas of the North Atlantic Ocean.

Her project depends on the controversial use of a developing biotechnology that works directly with a species of krill that inhabits at low depths.

Throughout months of observation and communication, the marine biologist develops a relationship of friendship and kin with the krill swarm, while observing their movements through the nano-cameras incorporated in their bodies -- slowly moving through the deeper zones of the Ocean.

As the end of her project approaches, the biologist is faced with questions regarding her relationship to the non-human and the systems that mediate their contact.

Gums, Ghosts, Road, Movie, 2019-ongoing

HD video, 5’, Color, Sound

Gums, Ghosts, Road, Movie records fragments and personal impressions in film around the eucalyptus tree between the State of Victoria in Australia - where the tree is indigenous - and Beira Interior in Portugal - where it has been widely planted and is one of the major causes of continuous forest fires. Tracing the journey of this species from its place of origin, ‘Gums, Ghosts’ lately translates into a reflection on identity, empathy and environmental displacement.

Mood Keep, 2018

Film installation at Looiersgracht60

HD video, 14', Color. Sound

Pink carpet, pink tungsten light

Mood Keep focuses on the critically endangered Mexican axolotl, a water creature with regenerative abilities that refuses to metamorphose into maturity. In the  lm, set in a near future, axolotls in captivity collectively decide to develop eyelids.

In charting the connections between the axolotl’s post-colonial history, unique - almost unearthly - biology, and recent online popularity as one of the world’s cutest creatures, the work seeks to trace the prevalence of cute imagery in contemporary semiotics.
